Urgent Care Q&A

Is urgent care the same as the emergency room (ER)?

No. Urgent care provides prompt care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. On the other hand, an ER provides immediate treatment for potentially life-threatening problems, like heart attacks, strokes, and severe bleeding that won’t stop.

If you or your loved one have chest pain, blurry vision, or slurred speech, call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room. But if you’re suffering from a persistent cough, a sore throat, or a minor sports injury, call or visit Xpress Med Urgent Care.

What types of medical conditions does urgent care treat?

The Xpress Med Urgent Care team uses urgent care to treat various medical conditions, including the following:

  • Accidents and falls

  • Sprains and strains

  • Moderate back problems

  • Bleeding and cuts that require stitches

  • Fever

  • Eye irritation and redness

  • Vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea

  • Dehydration

  • Severe sore throat or cough

  • Skin rashes and infections

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Mild and moderate asthma

The team also provides same-day diagnostic services, including X-rays and ultrasounds.

Is urgent care expensive?

One of the most common misconceptions is that urgent care is expensive, but it’s actually quite affordable. Consider that a trip to the emergency room costs a little more than $1,000 on average. If you need an ambulance or more specialized care when you arrive, that number goes even higher.

Conversely, urgent care is covered by most medical insurance. Even if you don’t have insurance, you typically can receive treatment and other necessary services for much less.

What should I bring to an urgent care appointment?

To get the most out of your urgent care visit at Xpress Med Urgent Care, the team recommends bringing the following information:

  • Health insurance card

  • Results from any recent or relevant medical tests, like blood work or X-rays

  • Questions or concerns you’d like to address

  • List of the medications, supplements, and vitamins you take

If you’re new to Xpress Med Urgent Care, bring the name and contact information of your previous doctor as well.

Should I call urgent care in advance of my visit?

Feel free to call the Xpress Med Urgent Care team before your visit so they can prepare for your arrival. But if you’re too busy or unable to call, that’s okay. Simply walk into the office during business hours, and the team will take care of you.

Call Xpress Med Urgent Care today to schedule an urgent care appointment, or book your visit online.
